Old Navy increased the number of discounted items more than most brands during back to school shopping

Old Navy increased overall discounting by 23.8% across its merchandise in 2024 compared to the previous year according to Earnest Retail Pricing web data, the biggest YoY increase in discounting among any major back to school brand. Express (+7.7% YoY), Gap (+7.5% YoY), and The Children’s Place (+7.0% YoY) also increased discounting meaningfully.
Conversely, Macy’s ( -5.2% YoY), Bloomingdales ( -3.4% YoY), and Lululemon ( -1.7% YoY) reduced discounting by the most among major brands.
