Netflix subs surge, but they’re paying less
Netflix signed up 80% more new subscribers in the first full week of June than in the first week of the year according to Earnest credit card data. The spike in new signups began the week ended May 27th as Netflix began its crackdown on password sharing. Netflix subscribers are some of the most platform-loyal of any streaming service, with 42% of subscribers only signed up for Netflix. The increase suggests Netflix was able to retain many of the customers who were impacted by the password sharing policy change.
The average ticket of new subscribers signed up in the first full week of June fell 7% YoY, averaging $15.89. The drop signaling the newest subscribers are looking for entry level subscriber plans instead of the larger, multi-device plans.
