Luxury Rebounds
As European luxury brands report strong sales in the US thanks to lower infection rates and consumers flush with stimulus checks, we looked at how leading brands performed versus two years prior. Please note sales are from company-owned stores and ecommerce websites, and don’t include purchases via wholesale partners.
Here we see the strong resurgence of Louis Vuitton leading the rebound through the second half of 2020 and into the holiday period, bouncing around 100% growth, only to be surpassed by Gucci rocketing up through the early part of 2021 with ~150% growth in recent weeks.
American brands Coach, Michael Kors and Kate Spade sit in the middle of the pack, performing well over the holiday period, and after a short lull, seeing sales picking up over 30% again in recent weeks.
Meanwhile Cole Haan seems to have lost the spring in its step, tracking negative growth most of 2020, and languishing -37% in recent weeks vs. two years prior.
