DoorDash leads US delivery share, but some cities still competitive
DoorDash leads majority of US food delivery share
By the end of 2024, DoorDash led the national food delivery market with a 60.7% share, ahead of Uber Eats (26.1%) and Grubhub (6.3%).
In August 2024, DoorDash (DASH) announced a partnership with Chase Sapphire, offering complimentary DashPass memberships to cardholders. DoorDash continues expansion into new verticals, such as home improvement, through partnerships with retailers like Home Depot.
DoorDash also recently partnered with Lyft to enhance its membership benefits. DashPass members now enjoy discounted Lyft rides, while Lyft users receive a free trial of DashPass. This partnership positions DoorDash to compete directly with Uber Eats’ Uber One (UBER) membership, which bundles discounted rides and fee-free delivery. Uber Eats also rolled out an Instacart partnership aimed at further expanding its delivery services.
DoorDash led nationally, tops NYC market, nears majority in LA
In the New York City area, DoorDash (38.4%) and Uber Eats (38.2%) were nearly tied by the end of 2024. Grubhub, recently acquired by Wonder, holds 17.6%.
In the Los Angeles CBSA, DoorDash (41.8%) has nearly matched Uber Eats (41.9%). Grubhub (11.0%) continues to lose share each quarter. Uber Eats has benefited from integrating Postmates, once a significant player in Los Angeles, into its platform.
